Born and raised in Miami, Florida, Lewis Rainbow has built a thriving musical career that has spanned well over two decades. He is a staple of the South Florida music scene, maintaining a full-time performance and instruction schedule, and has authored three innovative drum books, Megachops, Megakicks, and Megamatrix, with several more to be released soon. Lewis began formal drum lessons at age 10 with Robert Hilton, which became 2 years of snare drum studies, rudiments, and reading. He spent the next six years playing in school bands, and becoming a self-taught drumset player. Then at age 18 he decided to go full blast into music classes and lessons at the college level, at the same time launching his professional performance and instructional career. The early years of his career were a diversified combination of bands of all styles, ethnicities, and ages, playing in locations everywhere across the country. At the same time, Lewis was studying at all the local colleges: University of Miami, Miami-Dade Community College and Florida International University. Some of his instructors included Steve Rucker, Danny Perez, Pete Webster, and while in Boston he studied with Gary Chaffee. As if he wasn't busy enough, Lewis was teaching at several local music stores including Music Shop of Kendall and Carroll Music. He then taught at Resurrection Drums from 1988 until August of 2005, when Resurrection moved their Miami operations to Ft. Lauderdale. Lewis currently maintains a busy teaching schedule of private lessons at his home studio. When he's not teaching or practicing, Lewis can be seen around the South Florida area performing with various musical groups ranging from Jazz-Fusion to Progressive Rock and everything in between. |
